Dr Shilpa Kuruvilla

Qualifications and Training:

Dr Kuruvilla completed her medical training in India, followed by specialist training in ophthalmology in the renowned Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. She was a gold medallist in both MBBS and specialist Ophthalmology training. She has done further specialty and subspecialty training in both Australia and New Zealand and has been practising ophthalmology for close to 15 years.

She completed a one-year fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus in the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

She has worked in India as a specialist adult and paediatric ophthalmologist. In Australia, she has worked in all subspecialties within ophthalmology. Her extensive experience and training across 3 countries allows her to deliver high quality care for a wide range of eye disorders. Her special interests are in cataract, adult strabismus, medical retina and glaucoma.

Dr Kuruvilla works as a staff specialist Ophthalmologist at the Flinders Medical Centre and the Womens and Childrens Hospital, Adelaide. She enjoys teaching and is actively involved in the surgical training of post-graduate ophthalmology trainees at both these centres.

Social Interests:

Dr Kuruvilla enjoys painting and loves cooking traditional South Indian food for her family and friends. She is fluent in some languages of the Indian sub-continent, including Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil.
